The News For 2009

Freedom Kilts is experiencing a growth despite these economic times.  I thought I would let you in on our plans for 2009.

We will be discontinuing the Industrial Model this spring.  We will replace it with a Box-Pleated Model.
The Industrial Model was originally designed to give our younger customers a cost effective "starter" Kilt. We found that other manufacturers could outsource their labor and offer a much cheaper option.
In keeping with the goal of producing Kilts that are much more like a good pair of slacks instead of blue jeans we have decided that the Industrial Model does not fit that goal.
The Box-Pleat Model will be of the same high quality that Freedom Kilts is known for.  It will have the same internal interfacing system that I developed to insure our Kilts always hang & swish properly.

I am working frantically to get The Art of Contemporary Kiltmaking finished and off to the printers.  I have most of the text written and am working on all the illustrations and photos.  My thanks to Greg Roth and Barb Tewksbury for their help and encouragement on this project.
The Kilt World has needed this book for a long time.  Designed to be the companion to Barb Tewksbury & Elsie Strumeyers' The Art of Kiltmaking, my book will be a "design guide" on the Contemporary Style of Kilt.

Our public appearance schedule will be rather short this year.  We need to make a trip to the UK to meet face-to-face with our suppliers.  Bobbie and I are planning a 10 day trip in late June.  Can our British and Scottish friends and customers say "Big Kilt Night"?

Our accessories section of the web site has never been finished but that is due to my failure to get all the photos taken and write all the discriptions of the many things we carry in the shop.
But we hope to have the accessories up and running in the early spring.  This is becoming very important because of the release of our "Kilt Cut Sport Coat".  I always wanted a jacket to go with our Kilts but thought the Prince Charlie and Argyle styles were a bit too dressy for a Contemporary Kilt.  So I designed a jacket we hope our customers will find is the perfect style for the office or an evening out to dinner where an Argyle would look overdressed.
Now produced in the UK to the highest standards and available in a wide range of Tweeds this jacket is becoming a big seller.  We think we are the only Brown Tweed available in the world.
